Strategic Cone Command Autocross

Report continues below.

Saturday began with sunshine and a light breeze. The course was a Nick Owens design with extended Chicago box and a taxiway wall’em. 40 brave souls withstood a heat index of over 100 degrees. Maurie Light had FTD in his 2004 Red Devil F mod car with a time of 52.506. The FTD for a door car was Kevin Turner in his 2006 Solstice and a time of 55.124. Kyle Kelly topped the PAX list with a blistering 46.290 driving a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3. John Li was FTDis. The day was punctuated by a couple of incidents. There were two participants making donations to the Taxi Light Replacement fund. But the big event was the Sandy Grable exploding caliper Chicago Box entry.

Sunday brought some welcome clouds and a nice breeze. 38 particpated in the reversed, extended and tightened Nick Owens course. The changes proved to be a challenge for some as the braking points from Saturday did not work so well for Sunday. Maurie Light again earned FTD with a time of 53.703. Emanuel Martin had the best time for a door car in John Li’s 09 Miata and a time of 57.517. Adam Deffenbaugh was FTDi with a 48.153 and Brent Kalman was FTDis. There was time and not near as much heat for fun runs at the end of the day. Everyone went home with a trophy and the rain held off until all was cleaned up and packed away.
