Champaign County Sports Car Club

Hallo-weenie Roast Rally

Friday October 31, 2008

Rallymaster: Mike Blackwelder

Registration: 7:00 to 7:35 PM

County Market on Glenn Park Drive in Champaign, IL

The rally ends with a wiener roast at
Jim Hamilton's (620 N. Penfield) in Rantoul, IL

Special Information
Mike Blackwelder will put on a traditional Halloween Rally so expect some interesting "tricks" with the instructions. In other words, don’t forget to bring a mirror (in case the instructions are a mirror image), wire (in case the instructions are inserted in straws), double stick tape (in case the instructions have been cut apart) and whatever else you think might be useful in handling whatever devilishness Mike comes up with. Last year we had to eat a cupcake to find an instruction hidden inside it. Oh, BTW, costumes are welcome.

I see on the calendar that there will only be a sliver of a moon and I'm guessing the temperature will be around 50 degrees for the wiener roast. Everything will be provided for the wiener roast (plates, cups, food, drinks, etc.) except chairs so toss two in the car right now while you’re thinking of it. If you can’t make the rally come on out to the wiener roast at Jim's around 9:00 or 9:30 and listen while those who ran the rally try to explain why it wasn’t their fault that they didn’t find all the checkpoints. FYI Jim's house is the last house on the right on Penfield on the north edge of town.

Registration Info
The entry fee will be $15.00 per team. We recommend that you register close to the time registration opens. This will give you time to do the paperwork including certifying that your vehicle's/driver's insurance meets the appropriate state's standards, that the driver has a valid license, that your rally vehicle is being used with the permission of the owner, is in safe operating condition, is on the road legally, and that all its operational items such as lights, turn signals, brakes, horn, tires, mirrors, seat belts, windshield wipers and windshield washer are in proper working order. It will also give you time to read the rally's general rules and to talk to other rally participants. This last is especially important if you've never run a rally before.

Don't Have a Driver or Navigator?
If you don't have a partner to drive or navigate for you just come by yourself. At almost every rally there are folks who come alone then team up with someone else to run the event. If you are lucky you'll have a chance to team up with someone who has some rally experience. Sometimes that increases your chances of winning a trophy. If you're only slightly less lucky you'll get to run with someone who has no rally experience and have twice the fun as you discover what rallying is all about. At the very worst (which almost never happens) there will be no one to partner with and you will get the chance to work some of the checkpoints and see how everyone is doing as the event progresses.
