Well….. what should I say? It was a beautiful night and 7 teams showed up. 5 Nav and 2 seat of pants. The ODO leg went well but I messed up instruction 18, so instead of arriving at the checkpoint, everybody headed out to Savoy and questioned my sanity trying to hold a CAST of 52 in a 45 speed limit. Thanks to cell phones we managed to gather the herd back together, to re-start the rally.
Everybody except car 7 made to the third Check Point and it turned out that was because another mistake of mine, which apparently nobody else registered, yet it meant that we had to throw out that leg as well, not to mention another 1/2 hour delay of things.
From there it went better, even though nobody spotted the 10 point wild card. I had placed the ODO sign in my front yard and told everybody to look out for something out of place. If they would have been able to tell me what and where they saw it, it would have reduced their penalty times 10 points up to, but not beyond zeroing that leg.
Going back to Monicals I was pretty devastated about how everything had turned out and that didn’t really helped my math abilities, so I had to correct two final scores.
The rally was won overall buy Chuck Hanson and his wife Judy. Chuck told me that this was Judy’s first, first overall trophy.
Second was Gary and Jerry driving Gary’s new old Subie.
Third was Bob and Marianne DeMeritt.
Fourth overall was car 7 driven by Mike and Jimmy, this meant also first in class of SOP.
Fifth place was Russ and Adrian.
Sixth Bob Townsend and John Coleman.
Seventh Brian and Sandy.
Everybody told me they had fun aside of all the confusion, and I sure learned a lot.
Many thanks goes to Rob, Dennis, Kay and Tom for helping and sticking with me all the way.
Many thanks also goes to Monical’s Pizza, those guys still served us well, despite the fact that we walked in less then 30 minutes from closing time.
