Beginning Autocrossing:

This class is for those new to autocrossing, those who have not run a whole season or those that need the basic instruction provided in a classroom situation.  The class will meet from 8 am until 1130 am in a class:room for instruction from experienced autocrossers.  Terminology, rules, regulations, techniques and theory will be presented.  Discussions will include specific skills needed to compete in various cars and classes.  The classes offered by CCSCC will be explained, as will what is needed to be competitive in class.

Individual instruction will commence after lunch with in-car instruction and observation by an experienced autocrosser.  There will be a final classroom discussion at the end of the in-car instruction session.

The cost for this course is $60 and pre-registration either online or by email or phone to Pete Hetman is required.  Only 35 people will be accepted for this class.  A waiting list is usually needed for this class.  Lunch on Saturday is included.

The instructors are:

Pete Hetman, Dennis Miller & Barry Rowe

Advanced Autocrossing:

This class is for more experienced autocrossers who are looking to hone their skills.  The class starts at 8 am on the apron to hangar # 2 at the Rantoul Aviation Center.  You should arrive prior to that time and prepare your car by removing everything from the interior and trunk of the car that is loose and the driver’s floormat. You should have your helmet with you.  At 8 am you need to be ready to drive.  Tech Inspection will be open at 8 am.

The class will include polishing of your skills and support by experienced instructors who will help you optimize your skill with walkthroughs, in car instruction and observations.

The cost of this class is $75 and you must apply online to Pete Hetman.  It is expected that you have either run 10 autocrosses and been a student in prior CCSCC autocross schools or have run at least 20 autocrosses.  All entry into this class is ONLY with instructor approval.  Only 12 entrants will be accepted for this class.

Lunch will be provided for entrants and instructors on Saturday.  In the afternoon, ALL advanced students will be needed to work the course for the beginning students.  If you aren’t willing to do this, don’t sign up for the course.

The main instructor for this class and course designer is Russ Bedford.

Sunday Classes:

These classes are for the people who make the autocrosses happen.  Both of them are free and include a free lunch on Saturday and free entry into the TestNTune on Sunday after the classes.  It is hoped that all entrants in the Sunday classes will have helped with the school on Saturday.  There is no fee for taking these classes.  You may register for these courses with the CCSCC online registration system or by email to Pete Hetman at phetmanjr@gmail.com

Registration & Timing:

Offered at 8am on Sunday, this class takes place in the classroom and on site at the TestNTune where you learn to operate registration and timing & scoring.  We need lots of people to know how to use our AXWare timing and scoring computer program.  It has revolutionized how we hold autocrosses and it makes life easier for the whole club.  However, it is complex and we need trained users to man it.  This is how you will get the training.  Instructor Tom Ingles is THE expert on AXWare and is so knowledgeable that the author of the program uses Tom’s input to offer new versions, fix bugs and add features.

Working registration and timing & scoring is a great job and you don’t have to chase cones at an autocross if you work one of these jobs!  There is no cost to this class.

Safety Steward:

CCSCC uses Safety Stewards to independently check the safety of our autocross events.  This official has the responsibility to insure our courses are safe and will be fair to all.

Anyone who wants to be a CCSCC Safety Steward for 2011 must take this course.

This class will be a 2 hour class that includes the CCSCC rules and regulations defining the SS job and defining what the rules are for a safe course. Our course is separate, but based on the SCCA Solo Safety Steward information and course.  You will be able to get an SCCA Solo Safety Steward license by attending this class.  You will be given a form to fill out and if you want to exercise this option, you will need to attend two SCCA autocross events to act as an assistant safety steward, get some signatures, and then send your form to the divisional safety steward for approval.  You must be an SCCA member to become an SCCA Solo Safety Steward.  This will probably be the last year that this option will be available in this class.  CCSCC will not offer any SCCA sanctioned autocrosses this year, so no CCSCC event can be counted for a SCCA Solo Safety Steward license.

The instructors of this class are:
Greg Lukach:  CCSCC Safety Chair
Pete Hetman:  Former SCCA Solo Safety Steward Instructor, former SCCA/CIR Regional Exec and former CCSCC President
Barry Rowe:  CCSCC President, a licensed SCCA Solo Safety Steward Instructor, CIR/SCCA assistant Regional Exec.

Volunteers:

We will also need volunteers to help us offer this school.  Please email Pete Hetman (phetmanjr@gmail.com) to volunteer.  We need instructors for beginning students (must have substantial autocross experience), advanced instructors (approved by Pete), course workers, and entrants for the Timing & Scoring; and Safety Steward classes.  All workers must be approved by Pete for their positions.
