April 11th, Rally, Let’s Try This Again

For the first time in about 1 ½ years, Champaign County Sports Car Club sponsored a Rally. The last rally we held was in November 2019. This is, hopefully, the first of many rallies to be held in 2021.

Thanks to some effective social media and email announcements the information about this rally got out. There may have been a pent-up demand as well. 12 teams registered and showed up to try the rally.

Although weather predictions for most of the week before were for a breezy, partly sunny day, Sunday proved to be pretty lousy. Windy and rainy, not too warm either. Oh well.

We met at Eastwood Center in Mahomet. Joe Siedenburg and Barry Rowe shared their many years of rally experience with the new folks. They described how to read rally instructions, what to look for on the road, and provided tips to successfully navigate a TSD (time-speed-distance) rally using CCSCC rules and practices. The results speak well of their effort: almost no off-courses by participants.

Four legs of varying distances challenged the teams. The rain came and went, and came again, but didn’t daunt the drivers and navigators.

We finished back in Mahomet, at the Monical’s restaurant where we compared experiences and announced results.
